About Me

Although a Jazz aficionado, I spent most of the 1980s and 1990s involved in popular entertainment and Musical Theatre; and usually as a Keyboardist.

I wouldn't change anything from my 'showbiz' days which invariably took me to great heights, and gave me the opportunity to work with many gifted musicians and entertainers.

I left the 'business' in 2000 and spent the following seven years in Musical Instrument sales. This period of long reflection enabled me to rediscover the Jazz that had originally inspired me to be a musician.

I turned 'Pro' again in 2008 determined to play only Jazz or Jazz influenced music, and that
is where I am now. The future doesn't look very bright for Jazz. Particularly Traditional styles. But while there is still an audience, I'm enjoying every opportunity to play.

Below, is a brief outline of past experiences I have had as a musician up to the year 2000 when I left Popular Entertainment.

- Self-taught piano at young age after being inspired by music heard on father's old 78 r.p.m. records.

- Classically trained on clarinet from the age of 9.

- Began music career playing clarinet with various traditional Jazz bands. Recorded 3 sessions for BBC Radio 2's You, the night, and the music with local Jazz group playing own written arrangements.

- Played with Cy Laurie, Keith Nichols, George Chisholm and bands of Dennis Field and Hugh Rainey.

- Received much encouragement from Digby Fairweather and was included as one of his Essex Radio All Stars for their 1981 Jazz Cruise to Sweden.

- In contrast to the Dixieland Jazz, was also playing keyboards in Basildon based Jazz-Funk band, Elixia. Recorded for "Record Shack Records" and had minor club hit 12" single with "Soho Nights".

- As a pianist and keyboard player, began working with function bands on the hotel and club circuit. Worked regularly at Butlins holiday camps, and backed comics and entertainers including Michael Barrymore, Larry Grayson, Bobby Davro and soul singer George McCrae.

- Played on Radio and TV jingles/commercials
